Keep Calm and Carry on Hunting Fabergé Eggs

Easter is coming soon and I would say that the count down can officially start.

Plus, the imminent Easter is remembered to us by shop windows, bars and pastry stores every day!

Last week, while I was in London…another element made me remember Easter, The “Fabergé Big Egg Hunt”.

La Pasqua si avvicina e direi che il conto alla rovescia può ufficialmente iniziare.

In più, ci sono le vetrine dei negozi, i bar e le pasticcerie che ci aiutano a ricordarlo ogni giorno!

La settimana scorsa mentre ero a Londra …un altro elemento mi ha fatto ricordare la Pasqua, La “Fabergé Big Egg Hunt”.

I think everyone knows Fabergé Company. The House of Fabergé is an historical Russian jewellery firm founded in 1842 by Gustav Faberge. The firm has been famous for designing elaborate jewel-encrusted Fabergé eggs for the Russian Tsars. Its famous eggs are authentic piece of art and high stunning jewels creations.

By means of this event, Fabergé has been able to link art, design, tradition and charity.

Certainly a perfect marketing activity that helps an historical and elegant brand in its relaunch project after too many years of torpor.

209 sculptured eggs realized by famous stylists, architects, artists and designers, have been spread around the central streets of the Capital. So the creative aspect is a fundamental element.

Credo che tutti conoscano la Fabergé. La Maison Fabergé è una storica casa di gioielleria russa fondata nel 1842 da Gustav Faberge. Famosa per la realizzazione di particolari uova-gioiello, tempestate di pietre preziose, destinati come omaggio agli Zar russi. Le sue famose uova sono autentiche opere d’arte e preziosissime creazioni di alta gioielleria.

Tramite questo evento La Fabergé è riuscita a unire arte e moda, tradizione e beneficienza. Sicuramente una perfetta attività di marketing che aiuta questo brand storico e di grande eleganza nella sua operazione di rilancio dopo anni di torpore.

209 uova sotto forma di scultura realizzate da famosi stilisti, architetti, artisti e designer, sono state disseminate per le vie centrali della capitale inglese. L’aspetto creativo è quindi un elemento fondamentale.

The hunt started at the end of February and will end the 3rd of April…so if you have any intention to participate, hurry up!

London Trip and Afternoon Tea

I’ve always thought that an entire life is not enough to visit the world and once you have been in a place, no matter if it’s a city or a island or anywhere else, it isn’t the case to come back and it should be better to use a new trip to visit new and different places.

Well, obviously my theory has some exceptions. There are places where you leave your heart and which always give you new cues. No matter how many times you visit these places, you can always discover something new and live different emotions.

In my case, one of these places is London.

Last week, I had the opportunity to spend three days in this amazing city for the fourth time in my life. But this time my trip was a bit different…less touristic but not less experiential!

First stop

My hotel was in the Shoreditch district. With its gallery of Art and small picturesque shops, Shoreditch gives home to thousands of creative individuals, from Fine Artists to musicians, designers and filmmakers. This district has also a fantastic nightlife. If you are in London don’t miss to come here and have a nice dinner, listening to some good music and drinking a beer with some friends!

My husband and I had a dinner at The Princess of Shoreditch that I recommend you if you are planning to have a romantic dinner. You can eat such a really good food as well and I suggest you to try one of their appetizer-soup called “London peculiar”. I’m not sure about its ingredients but it was similar to a pea soup with piece of Salmon fish…absolutely tasty!

Second stop

Among million of things you can do in London, what I’ve never done before was the “Afternoon tea”. This time, thank to a friend of mine who lives in London, I did it and It was such a wonderful, relaxing and enjoyable experience!

Afternoon tea is a small meal snack typically eaten between 2pm and 5pm. Usually you can have a nice cup of tea and a glass of champagne, accompanied by small sandwiches or baked goods (such as scones) often served on a tiered stand. We went to London Courthouse Doubletree by Hilton Hotel. It was a really nice place and perfectly located nearby Carnaby Street.

Loooovely experience!!! :)

 

Third stop

Another place that I love visiting when I go to London is Covent Garden. Although It’s a touristic place, I like the atmosphere you breathe there.

Fourth stop

Obviously in my London trip I could not miss some shopping too and in the lovely shop of Sass & Belle in Covent Garden, I bought these two gadgets for my house: a couple of lovely decorate hooks:

The shop of Sass & Bell is a paradise for girls with wide selection of gifts and decorative products for home and garden. Jewellery holders and stands, decorate hooks, vintage cushions, lovely owls, cupcakes money boxes and much more.

Wonderful!! But don’t worry, if you are not planning to visit London soon, you can just shop on line without the luggage problem… as I had! J

Once at home, I’ve tried to find a perfect place for them. The “Coat” hook in my living room and the “Necklaces” hook in my bedroom...and here they are:

5 Fab New Things of my Week

Hello,

too many changes and improvements in my house in those days...but I'd like to share with you in particular five new things:

1.This wonderful canvass I bought at IKEA. I love the Jungle images and also the impression you can cross that bridge...quite scary! 

2. A lovely Orchid in a red pot. I like that pot color strong and elegant and of course the orchid that btw is my fav plant.

3. Inspiration in a different way - Pantone book is an amazing collection of images and details about the XX century History.

4. A really appreciated gift from London: last week a friend of mine and ex flatmate came to visit me and brought to me this lovely apron, a kitchen towel "her majesty" and 5 royal teabags! thanks darling! :)

5. Last but not least: 3 mini vases, part of Rosenthal Vases Collection realized by different artists in a limited edition. A Wonderful gift idea and a nice way to collect all the Rosenthal Pots and Vases without spending too much! I bought those three vases at Vincenzo Dascanio Shop in Milan but  you can buy them also in the official Rosenthal website.

Union Jack rules in Interior Design

Hi everyone!

More than a week has passed since I wrote my last post… I’m really sorry about this long absence but I was really busy with some works in my house, such as installing all the lights, fixing up some furniture for the living room, for the storage space and for my office room too.

Furthermore, I’ve tried to refine my blog and logo. What do you think about the new outlook? Do you like it this new version? It’s still a work in progress…but I like it more than the previous version. I thought my blog was needing more personality; I’ve tried different solutions and I decided for this one, ‘cause lilac and grey are some of my favorite colors and this new graphic better reflects my personality and my taste!

After this digression let’s talk about something new.

Next week I’ll be in London for three days… I’m preparing a list of all the shops and places I want to visit. This is the fourth time I’m in London, therefore I think my trip should be less touristic and more dedicated to appreciate the real spirit of the city in all its facets. At the moment in my list I put districts as Notting Hill, Covent Garden (that I love), Shoreditch and Chelsea. If some of you can suggest me some other places to visit in London, I would really appreciate! :)

How to explain the post title after this digression? Well, my incoming visit to London brought my research of Interior design inspiration to the Union Jack and its uttermost success as interior design element.

Now just a hint about the Union Jack history, to know that the first flag that represented Great Britain was introduced in 1606 by King James I.

The current flag dates from the Union of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801.The "Union Jack" or "Union Flag" is a composite design made up of three different national symbols:

The Welsh dragon was not incorporated into the Union Flag because Wales had already been united to England when the first version of the Union Flag was designed in 1606.

Waiting for Milan Design Week…an interesting preview

It is just a month and half left to the Milan Design Week 2012, and the first events and previews of design collections already start… Some of them are really interesting.

Talking about previews… last Thursday at Cubo in via Moscova, an event organized by D3CO took place to present in a press preview some models of its sofa collection. The entire collection will be only shown at Design week in April.

A poco più di un mese di distanza dalla Milano Design week 2012, iniziano i primi eventi e le anticipazioni delle collezione di design, alcune anche molto interessanti.

Tra le varie anticipazioni, lo scorso giovedì al Cubo di via Moscova, si è tenuto un evento organizzato dalla D3CO, per presentare in anteprima alla stampa, alcuni modelli della loro collezione di divani, che verrà presentata interamente solo alla Milano Design week di aprile.

D3CO is an Italian company, founded in 2012 in the Brianza District (nearby Milan), which has been able to transform and to evolve its thirty-year tradition in upholstered sofas into high-level creative works. This was possible with the collaboration of six young designers with international standing.

D3CO è un’azienda di divani nata nel 2012 nel distretto della Brianza da una famiglia di artigiani che è stata capace di trasformare ed evolvere la propria esperienza trentennale nel settore degli imbottiti in un’officina creativa di altissima qualità, aprendosi ad una collaborazione con sei giovani designers riconosciuti a livello internazionale.

The D3CO Sofa’s collection is the result of a perfect mix of handmade tradition and fancy inspiration of designers. All sofas are handmade, using exclusively natural materials and are entirely made in Italy. The sofas’ preview of last Thursday presented four models and I’m introducing them here below:

Quella proposta da D3CO è una collezione di divani dal design ricercato che unisce la tradizione artigianale all’estro dei giovani progettisti. Tutti i modelli sono realizzati artigianalmente con uso esclusivo di materiali naturali e rigorosamente Made in Italy. I modelli mostrati in anteprima lo scorso giovedì sono quattro e qui sotto ve li presento:

VIRGO design by Mario Ferrarini is a sofa with generous volume and static shape a bit rounded off. It is a perfect mix of comfort and dynamism.

DZEN designed by CRTLZAK Studio – Two tables realized getting inspiration from the physical and mental balance of Zen philosophy.

DISFATTO designed by Denis Guidone. It’s a couch with a simple structure and totally modifiable shape. It seems to praise the imperfection but instead it becomes pleasantly adaptable and lovely couch.

BACO designed by Sara Ferrari, is an elegant sofa that better than others represents the D3CO Philosophy in terms of natural production and attention to materials. 

My favorite? Surely “Disfatto” because it perfectly fits with my taste and also because it more adapts to a metropolitan style given its practical use not losing design. And you guys...which one do you prefer?

Il mio preferito? “Disfatto” perché rispecchia perfettamente i miei gusti e penso sia il più adatto ad uno stile metropolitano, dall’uso pratico ma che non rinuncia al design. A voi quale preferite?
